“5 Ways to Double Your Investment” by yahoo.com

Posted by yopi on July 27, 2009

“There’s something about the idea of doubling one’s money on an investment that intrigues most investors. It’s a badge of honor dragged out at cocktail parties, a promise made by over-zealous advisors, and a headline that frequents the cover of some of the most popular personal finance magazines. Knowing some of the most trusted avenues…”

Posted by yopi on July 25, 2009

“Searching for jobs you can do from home used to be a matter of scanning the Sunday classifieds for offers to get rich quick by stuffing envelopes. Now, exposure to at-home employment opportunities has exploded, and a wide range of job ads are just a mouse click away. But so are the scams. The Rat Race Rebellion, a website that tracks at-home jobs, finds 57 phonies for every one that’s for real, says company CEO Christine Durst.

But if you want to beat the odds, consider these 10 jobs – some rather traditional and others unexpected – for …”

“Make Your Resume Stand out From the Pack” by Yahoo.com

Posted by yopi on July 21, 2009

The author is totally right about writing an “accomplishment” resume and not a “job description” resume – employers definitely want and need to ’see’ what to can actually bring to the table if they choose you.

Question: I have recently moved, and it has been tough finding work. I started looking for work back in April. What can I do to enhance my resume and land a job?

– Trying to Stand Out, South Bend, IN

Answer: So, what can you do to make sure your resume is selected from a stack that could be 400 deep? That’s the challenge when it comes time to writing your resume.

The key is to make sure you write an accomplishment resume as opposed to a job-description resume….”

These are really nice tips – to be used without moderation!!

“You only have one chance to make a good first impression, and you only have a few minutes to do just that in a job interview.

According to a Robert Half International (RHI) survey of 150 senior executives at the nation’s 1,000 largest companies, hiring managers form either a positive or negative opinion of job candidates within just 10 minutes.

Brandi Britton, senior regional vice president with RHI, says, “Your behavior may be under scrutiny from the moment you arrive for the interview.” Use these tips from Britton and other career and job-search gurus to make sure you wow them from the minute you walk in the room.

1. “A firm, non-sweaty handshake, eye contact, and a nice smile make you seem likeable. Likeable people are hired most often.”
– David Lewis, an executive with Express Employment Professionals and an expert on career development

“Hundreds of first-time home buyers in Massachusetts will be able to get an advance on an $8,000 federal tax credit, allowing them to apply the money to down payments and closing costs, under a new program unveiled by Governor Deval Patrick yesterday.

“The Online Essentials for Your Job Search” yahoo.com

Posted by yopi on July 14, 2009

“Job search was the fastest growing U.S. online content-site category in 2008, according to digital ratings authority comScore. The growth coincides with the loss of over 2 million jobs last year and a rising unemployment rate, but it also underscores how easy and effective the Web can be for finding a job.

“Online job search resources provide a vital service to those in need of new job prospects and opportunities, and Americans are turning online for this assistance now more than ever,” said Jack Flanagan, executive vice president of comScore.

But are job-seekers using Web tools to their best advantage? Here are several essential tips for making the Internet work you:

Diversify your search. You want to case a wide net when looking for a job, so don’t limit yourself to one site or one type of site. In addition to job boards like Yahoo! HotJobs, try sites associated with your relevant industry or professional…”

“When silence greets the resumé – Job seekers get creative” by Boston.com

Posted by yopi on July 8, 2009

“At a time when one job posting can attract hundreds of applicants, the unemployed are doing everything they can to stand out. There’s the man who walked the streets of Manhattan wearing a sandwich board that read: “MIT Grad for Hire.’’ A Connecticut woman rented a billboard along Interstate 95 to advertise her eagerness to land a job. A Hopkinton software engineer took out an ad for himself on a classical radio station after 10 months of looking for work.

The traditional job search – sending out resumes, crowding into jam-packed career fairs – often ends up going nowhere when there are 13.7 million unemployed people nationwide and only 2.5 million jobs to fill, as is now the case according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. So people are advertising themselves everywhere from the back of car windows to Facebook in the hopes of catching the eye of a potential employer….”
